Hi everyone
Just a quick post before I start on the big move to the other side of the world.
I started in D&D with a real grasp of the rules when I was a wee 16 years old back in 1992. The world setting I bought was the one my first fantasy fiction books were about - Dragonlance. It was fun for a while, but then in 1997, I got my hands on the Brown Box of Darksun and the world of Athas was at my feet.
22 years...
The harsh world was amazing and I loved dragging my players, knees first, through the sand or, even better, Stony Barrens. Little did I realise that I would drag them from 1st lvl in 1997 all the way up to 18th lvl in 2019. One long campaign that lasted 22 years and what a ride it was.
Writing Logbooks
During our time in world of slaves and sorcerer-kings, I had the players chronicle their adventurers (in-game) daily which was quite the endeavour. It is great to read and look back at but to be honest not very handy and a huge commitment from the players.
Pro:
having players chronicle their own story gives them an opportunity to contribute to your home game legacy
Can create immersion if they write it from their characters perspective
Each adventure another player can take on the task
Con:
They spent time writing it during gameplay and that means that player can't really Roleplay and misses key moments.
That one 'con' is why, after the 4 logbooks of the adventurers of THE GOLDEN SCALE, I decided to do the chronicling when we started in Greyhawk. For those interested in their writing and me adding images, I included book 1 and 2 to this blogpost.
My first video ever...
This is the trailer I made for them just before the climatic ending. I had absolutely no video editing skills but it was nonetheles fun to make.
